CHAMPIONS!!! Man City pip Liverpool to Premier League title in dramatic final day

Manchester City scored three late goals to beat Aston Villa 3-2 to win the 2021/22 Premier League title.

Pep Guardiola went into the match leading their closest challenger Liverpool by a point and needed to match the Reds’ results to retain their crown.

Things however seemed to be taking a wrong turn when Matty Cash gave Aston Villa the lead just before the break to lead 1-0 at half-time.

City tried all they could to get back into the game, but the visitors stood firm for long periods.

Villa, under the tutelage of Steven Gerrard then silenced the Etihad Stadium when former Liverpool star Phillipe Coutinho scored the second goal in the 69th minute.

At that point, Liverpool were drawing 1-1 at home to Wolves but could have moved ahead of City on the Standings with a second goal.

All that changed in a matter of minutes though as City scored three goals in a space of three minutes to take the lead and eventually win the match.

First, Raheem Sterling showcased great technique and produced a beautifully lofted cross into the box, which was expertly met by Ilkay Gundogan, heading inside the left post.

Rodri made it 2-0 two minutes later when Rodri produced a moment of magic, allowing a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner of the post.

Gundogan added his second of the day and City’s third two minutes after Rodri’s strike to spark wild celebrations at the Etihad.

The goal was enough to give the Cityzens the title ahead of Liveprool, who also scored two late goals to win 3-1.
