“We need food” Sokoto Youths Protest High Cost Of Living

On Tuesday, a significant number of youths in Sokoto peacefully protested against the soaring cost of living.

Men and women alike gathered, carrying placards bearing various messages, such as “We’re dying of hunger,” “enough is enough,” and “We need food.”

Safiya Sa’idu, one of the protesters, emphasized that their intention wasn’t to incite trouble but to urgently seek solutions to ease their hardships. She highlighted the exorbitant prices of essential items, stating that the cost of local rice has risen to N3,800, while garri is now priced at N1,500. Sa’idu expressed the dire consequences of this situation, with many households struggling to afford three meals a day and facing challenges in arranging marriages for their daughters due to financial constraints.
