The Independent National Electoral Commission in the Federal Capital Territory has begun displaying the Register of Voters and distributing Permanent Voter Cards across the territory.
In a public notice signed by Mrs Abimbola Oladunjoye on behalf of the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, the commission said the exercise would run at all 62 Registration Area Centres until Thursday, October 15, 2026. It will continue at INEC’s six area council offices from October 16.
The commission urged registrants to check their names and registration details, confirm their polling units and raise objections to the inclusion of ineligible persons. It also encouraged voters who registered, transferred or updated their records before 2026 to collect any outstanding PVCs.
However, INEC clarified that cards for those who participated in the 2026 Continuous Voter Registration exercise were not yet available. It said affected voters would be notified when their cards were ready. For enquiries, the commission provided the telephone numbers 0700 225 5634 632 and 0701 578 0499. INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan had announced during an engagement with journalists in Abuja that PVC distribution would begin on October 9, 2026.
He said the commission was strengthening its use of technology to prevent unauthorised persons from using stolen, lost or compromised voter cards to interfere with elections. According to Amupitan, Nigeria’s voter register now contains more than 103 million voters, with Lagos, Kano and Kaduna recording the highest numbers. The FCT has 1,772,043 registered voters.
Male voters account for 53,528,218, or 51.75 per cent of the national register, while female voters number 49,900,497, representing 48.25 per cent. Voters aged 35 to 49 form the largest age group, with 43,265,946 registrants, accounting for 41.83 per cent of the total.
