Buhari Wanted to Kill Me Years Ago, But Now He Has Died Before Me”— Sunday Igboho (video)

Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Igboho, has reacted to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Igboho, a prominent figure in the Yoruba self-determination movement, made this remark on a video shared on social media following news of Buhari’s death on Sunday, July 13 in a UK hospital.

“Buhari wanted to kill me years ago, but now he has died before me,” Igboho said in the video

Igboho has long accused the former president’s administration of persecuting him over his agitation for an independent Yoruba nation.

He rose to prominence as an activist calling for the creation of an independent Yoruba nation, citing what he described as systemic marginalization, insecurity, and economic neglect of the South-West under successive Nigerian governments. His outspoken agitation often put him at odds with federal authorities.

In 2021, during Buhari’s presidency, Nigerian security forces raided Igboho’s residence in Ibadan, killing two of his aides and declaring him wanted for allegedly stockpiling weapons and inciting violence. Igboho fled the country and was later arrested in Benin Republic while attempting to travel to Germany, sparking a diplomatic standoff and protests across the South-West demanding his release.
