Wakrot Chinshaka Wins Art & Creative Innovation Award 2024

Congratulations to Wakrot Chinshaka, Founder & Creative Director of Blacc Urban Studios, for receiving the Art and Creative Innovation Award 2024!

Wakrot Chinshaka

Wakrot Chinshaka is a London-based multidisciplinary artist and designer whose work spans fine art, architecture, and industrial design. Rooted in his Nigerian heritage, Wakrot reimagines Afrocentric motifs through bold, contemporary designs, exploring themes of identity, resilience, and cultural storytelling. His art bridges tradition and modernity, creating globally resonant works that inspire unity and transformation.

A graduate of Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, with a Master’s in Industrial Design, Wakrot is the visionary behind the award-winning More Love, Less War campaign. This project draws inspiration from his hometown of Jos, Nigeria, a region known for its rich cultural diversity yet marked by ethno-religious conflict. More Love, Less War uses urban fashion, art, and storytelling to promote peace and unity. Central to the campaign is a unique design project that incorporates the colours, patterns, and fashion styles of both indigenous and settler tribes in Jos into a unified fabric. This fabric symbolises harmony and shared identity, serving as the foundation for clothing and art pieces that advocate for an end to conflict.

The campaign also includes community-focused initiatives, such as workshops and art therapy sessions, aimed at empowering children in crisis-affected areas. These sessions provide a creative outlet for participants to process trauma, rebuild confidence, and foster a renewed sense of hope. Through these efforts, More Love, Less War transcends art, becoming a movement for healing, resilience, and unity in a historically divided community.

Wakrot is also the founder of Blacc Urban Studios, where he combines technical expertise with cultural narratives to create visually and emotionally impactful works. His acclaimed piece The Blood-Stained Child is a visceral exploration of violence and healing, transforming personal pain into a universal call for justice and compassion.

Whether through evocative artworks or impactful social campaigns, Wakrot’s practice underscores the transformative power of art in preserving cultural heritage, challenging societal norms, and inspiring collective action. His dedication to social impact and his innovative approach to cultural storytelling position him as a leading voice in the global art and design landscape.

This prestigious recognition honors his outstanding creativity, visionary leadership, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of art and design. Through Blacc Urban Studios, he has redefined creative expression, blending innovation with cultural storytelling to inspire and uplift communities. His commitment to artistic excellence and his contributions to the creative industry continue to leave a lasting impact, setting new standards in visual arts and design.

Join us on Sunday, 16th February 2025, at the Crispan Suites & Events Center, Jos, for the 10th Plateau Man of the Year Awards Ceremony, as we celebrate his exceptional contributions to art and creative innovation.
