US Attack: “I’ll Defend Iran” – Putin Vows

Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran, describing them as unjustified aggression, while pledging support for the Iranian people.

Putin made the statement during a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in Moscow on Monday, just two days after U.S. President Donald Trump ordered strikes on three of Iran’s key nuclear sites.

“The unprovoked aggression against Iran has no basis and no justification,” Putin said in his televised statement. “For our part, we are making efforts to assist the Iranian people. I’m very glad you are in Moscow today so we can discuss all these pressing issues and think together about how we could get out of today’s situation.”

In response, Araqchi defended Iran’s position, insisting the country’s actions were in legitimate self-defence.

He also expressed appreciation for Russia’s stance, thanking Moscow for condemning the U.S. strikes.

“Russia is today on the right side of history and international law, Araqchi said, also conveying best wishes from Iran’s supreme leader and president.

While Russia has pledged diplomatic support, it remains unclear what concrete steps Moscow is prepared to take.

The strategic partnership agreement signed between the two nations in January does not include a mutual defence clause.

Prior to the U.S. strikes, the Kremlin had warned that any military intervention could destabilise the region and trigger serious consequences.

When pressed on what kind of support Russia might offer, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated, “It all depends on what Iran needs,” noting that Russia’s mediation efforts are already a form of assistance.

Peskov condemned the U.S. action, warning of increased tensions in the region.

“We are seeing an expansion in the number of participants in this conflict, or rather, it has already happened. This marks a new spiral of escalation, and we condemn it deeply,” Peskov said.

He also raised concerns about the state of Iran’s nuclear facilities following the attacks, questioning whether there could be a radiation risk.

Peskov further revealed that President Trump did not provide Putin with detailed information regarding the planned strikes, despite discussions between the two leaders in recent weeks.

“There was no detailed information,” Peskov said. “The issue of Iran itself was repeatedly discussed by the presidents during their most recent conversations, certain proposals were voiced by Russia, but there was no direct detailed information about this.”
