UCL Round-up: Ronaldo rescues Man United as Bayern Munich, Juventus reach knockouts

Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the stoppage time to rescue a point for Manchester United on Tuesday evening in their Champions League 2-2 draw with Atalanta. 

United found themselves trailing inside 12 minutes of play thanks to Josip Iličić’s opener but just before halftime, Ronaldo scored the leveler. In the second half, Duván Zapata restored Atalanta’s lead only for Ronaldo to save the Red Devils in the stoppage time.

In the other match of Group F, Villarreal registered a 2-0 victory over Young Boys to go top of the group with 7 points. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are second with seven but have an inferior goal difference. 

In group E, Bayern Munich continued with their unbeaten run in the tournament after thrashing Benfica 5-2 to open a six-point lead at the helm. Robert Lewandowski grabbed a hat-trick as Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane each scored one goal. The victory saw the Bavarians reach the last 16 of the Champions League. 

In the other match, Barcelona registered a narrow 1-0 victory over Dynamo Kyiv to go second with six points, six behind Bayern. Ansu Fati scored the only important goal in the second half that saw the Catalans claim maximum points at Olimpiysky National Sports Complex.

Juventus also booked a spot in the UCL knockout stages following a 4-2 win over Zenit St.Petersberg in Group H. In the other match, Chelsea beat Malmo 1-0 in the return leg thanks to Hakim Ziyech’s second-half strike.
