FG Declares June 12 Public Holiday

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, as a public holiday in celebration of this year’s Democracy Day.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.

According to the statement, the declaration was made on behalf of the federal government by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Congratulating Nigerians on the occasion, Dr. Tunji-Ojo highlighted that the country is marking 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.

“June 12 represents our historic journey to building a nation where truth and justice reign, peace is sustained, and our future assured,” he said.

The minister emphasized that Nigeria’s 26 years of democratic rule is a testament to the strength, resilience, and courage of its people, adding that the nation’s hope is now more renewed than ever.

“The last 26 years tells the story of our resilience, strength and courage and a hope Renewed than ever.”

He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, under the Renewed Hope agenda, to upholding democratic values.

The minister also noted that democracy thrives when there is room for growth and improvement and that the government remains dedicated to ensuring the people’s will is respected in shaping Nigeria’s cultural, economic, social, and political system.
