Suspected Thieves Set Ablaze by Angry Mob in Jos
A disturbing scene has played out in Jos, where an angry mob has taken the law into their own hands, setting suspected thieves on fire.
In a shocking act of vengeance, two suspected phone thieves were burned alive by an enraged mob on Friday in Kabong, a community in Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred in the early hours of today, November 29, 2024, when the suspects allegedly attacked road users with weapons, stealing phones and other valuables.
Eyewitnesses stated that residents, frustrated by the ongoing attacks in the area, pursued the suspects. While some managed to escape, two were captured and burned alive by the mob.
A resident verified the incident, saying, “This morning, suspected cultists were robbing people of phones and money. They have been terrorizing us, particularly in the mornings, at noon, and late in the evenings. Today, the mob apprehended two of them and set them on fire.”

The Plateau State Police Command also confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred.
The statement indicated that the police received a distress call at 9:20 a.m. reporting a mob action in the area. Officers were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they recovered two charred bodies and two locally made pistols, which were allegedly used by the suspects. The bodies were subsequently taken to a hospital morgue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, condemned both the criminal activities and the actions of the mob. He emphasized that jungle justice is illegal and urged citizens to report suspects to the police for proper investigation and prosecution.
