Mikel Arteta ‘does not know’ what will happen to Mesut Ozil even as rumours about his exit continue doing rounds.
The midfielder was left out of Arsenal’s squad for both the Premier League and Europa League squad this season, despite having a year left on his contract.
Speaking on Wednesday, Ozil’s agent, Dr Erkut Sogut said the midfielder’s future will become clear in the next 10 days.
“We were not allowed to talk legally before 1 January, so now we are just starting to look at the options with the numbers and details,” Sogut told ESPN.com.
“I can’t talk about the clubs directly because it would be unprofessional, but generally, there is six months left on the contract and it is nothing unusual that we will talk to people about different opportunities and try to find the best option for Mesut.
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup clash this weekend, Arteta said no decision has been made yet, but it will be communicated int eh coming weeks.
“I don’t know what is going to happen. Obviously now he’s free to negotiate with other clubs. We will discuss internally what the best situation for him is for the near future, obviously with the player and the agent too, and try to find the best solution for everyone,” Arteta said.
Adding: I think every player wants to play football. This is why we picked this profession and we are so lucky to be doing what we do. For every player that’s not playing, it’s always hard,”
Arsenal have struggled for a creative spark in recent games, leading to talk that the club could include him in the squad for the second half of the season.
