President Buhari congratulates Super Falcons over World Cup qualification

President Muhammadu Buhari has hailed Nigeria’s Female national football team, Super Falcons, for qualifying for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Super Falcons defeated Cameroon with a 1-0 victory in the quarter-final at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco to qualify for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

A statement by the president’s media aide, Femi Adesina, said Buhari lauded the team for their spirited performance in the tournament and for maintaining its dominant posture.

Having emerged as champions of the tournament in 2016 and 2018, under the Buhari-led administration, the President gave assurance to the footballers and their handlers that Nigeria is strongly standing with them and will continue to cheer them on until the last game in Morocco.

Buhari further prayed that the Super Falcons, which produced some the greatest African players to ever particiapate in the women’s game, will surpass their achievement during the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

He also said he looks forward to the next generation of upcoming football stars, who will one day win the World Cup for Nigeria through hard work, discipline, resilience and determination.
