Police Express Concern Over Increasing Number of Abandoned Newborns in Abuja

A worrying increase in abandoned newborns has prompted the Abuja police to issue a warning, highlighting the need for community involvement to tackle the problem.

The Nigeria Police Force in Abuja has raised concerns over the increasing number of abandoned babies in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), attributing the trend to men abandoning pregnant women.

Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh revealed in a statement on Sunday that two new cases of abandoned babies were reported last Saturday. She described the situation as alarming and called on men to take responsibility for their actions.

“If you are not prepared to take responsibility for fatherhood, avoid unprotected sex or abstain from it,” Adeh advised.

The issue, prevalent across Nigeria, underscores the need for stronger laws to protect children’s rights and prevent child abandonment, according to the police.

Authorities have also stressed the importance of collective efforts to ensure Abandoned Newborns receive the care and support they need.
