Police arrest officers who extorted N29million from Abuja businessman

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of its officers for extorting the sum of N29.9 million from a businessman in Abuja.

Our Source reports that activist, Harrison Gwamnishu raised an alarm about how a businessman (name withheld) was abducted by some armed police men while on his way to one of his sites in the Federal Capital Territory.

The uniformed men reportedly went through the victim’s mobile phones and detained him until he transferred all the money in his bank account to them.

Reacting to the development, Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi asked the victim to contact him directly and bring along evidence of the transactions.

He gave the police complaint number and disclosed that there is a conceited effort to bring erring police officers to book.

He wrote: “Please kindly assist the police by telling the victim to come see me personally (PPRO FCT Police Command) with the evidence of transactions at FCT Police Command. We need your cooperation to bring erring officers like this to book. Or you can call this number: 09022222352.”

Speaking on the Force’s efforts to address the matter, Adejobi, said some of the erring offivers have been arrested as investigation is still ongoing.

Giving an update, the spokesperson wrote: “We are making headway on this matter, and justice will be served, as some suspects have been arrested. Hakuna matata.”
