Over 100 Russian Drones Carried Out Overnight Attack on Ukraine, Officials Say

Ukraine reported on Sunday that Russia launched more than 100 drones overnight, targeting Kyiv and multiple regions at a critical moment in the war, as U.S. military aid remains frozen. The attacks came after deadly strikes on Friday and Saturday in eastern and northeastern Ukraine that killed at least 14 people.

Ukraine’s air force stated that Russia deployed 119 drones overnight, with 71 shot down across a dozen regions, including the capital. The fate of 37 other drones remains unknown, but authorities said they did not cause harm. The attacks resulted in damage in six regions, though specific details were not provided.

On Saturday evening, a glide bomb attack struck residential buildings in Druzhkivka, a town in the Donetsk region near the front line. Prosecutors reported that 12 people were wounded, including a 15-year-old girl.

Multi-storey apartment buildings and a café were damaged, with images showing shattered windows and debris littering the streets.

Meanwhile, Russia claimed that Ukraine launched 131 drones on the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, over the past day. According to regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, 101 of the drones were shot down, and no casualties were reported.

As the conflict escalates, Ukrainian officials are set to meet with U.S. representatives in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Washington hopes to negotiate a ceasefire and establish a “framework” for a peace agreement, following its decision to freeze arms shipments and restrict Kyiv’s access to intelligence reports and satellite imagery.
