NNPC Denies Responsibility for Fuel Price Hike, Refutes Claims of Adulterated Fuel Imports

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has firmly rejected allegations of importing adulterated fuel and contributing to the recent rise in petrol prices.

This statement comes amid protests at the NNPC headquarters in Abuja, where civil society groups called for the resignation of the Group Chief Executive Officer, Malam Mele Kyari, over the soaring fuel costs.

Olufemi Soneye, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, clarified on Tuesday that protesters were misinformed about the reasons behind the fuel price increases.

He emphasised that the GCEO is not responsible for the price hike, highlighting Kyari’s efforts to ensure fuel availability at N620 per litre, even when the landing cost exceeded N1,100.

Soneye also dismissed accusations that NNPC imports adulterated fuel, challenging anyone with evidence to present samples. He reiterated NNPC’s commitment to national energy security and the implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s energy roadmap, stating that the company will not be swayed by the protests.
