NAFDAC intensifies enforcement of ban on alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles, targeting manufacturers and distributors.
The director general of the National Agency for Food Drug and Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mojisola Adeyeye, has called on manufacturers and distributors to adhere to the ban on alcohol in sachets and PET bottles.
During the NAN Forum in Abuja, Adeyeye stressed the importance of complying with the ban and the Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria’s agreement.
Nigeria prohibited the sale of alcoholic beverages in small sachets and PET bottles in 2018, giving manufacturers a phased timeline to cease production and distribution.
The agreement has reached its final stage, aiming to completely remove these products from the market, said Adeyeye.
NAFDAC conducted extensive public awareness campaigns and stakeholder engagements to ensure compliance.
Adeyeye expressed concern over alcohol’s easy accessibility to teenagers, citing affordable sachets as a factor in widespread misuse with potentially devastating consequences.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health through strict regulations.
