51 Malian Migrants Detained in Nasarawa Over Lack of Valid Documents

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has apprehended 51 undocumented Malian migrants in New Nyanya, Karu Local Council of Nasarawa State. The individuals, consisting of 40 males and 11 females, were found without valid travel documents or residence permits.

NIS Public Relations Officer, ACI A.S Akinlabi, confirmed the arrest, stating that the operation was carried out following credible intelligence that led authorities to their hideout.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the migrants may have been victims of human trafficking and smuggling.

“None of them presented valid travel documents or proof of legal residency when questioned,” Akinlabi stated.

The apprehended individuals are currently in custody for further profiling and investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding their illegal entry into the country.
