The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has facilitated the safe return of 148 Nigerian migrants from Libya, providing assistance and support for their repatriation.”
A total of 148 Nigerian migrants, including women and children, have been repatriated from Libya through a Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) flight.
The repatriation, facilitated by the Libyan Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and the Nigerian consulate, saw the migrants flown from Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport to Lagos on Tuesday.
According to Migrant Rescue Watch, the group comprised 124 women, 13 men, and 8 children.
Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the return, stating that officials from various agencies received the migrants at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
Libya has long been a key transit point for migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean into Europe, often facing exploitation and harsh conditions. The returnees will now undergo reintegration programmes led by IOM.
