The Lagos State Government has commenced the implementation of a total ban on street hawking, trading and other related activities across the state.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab made this known through his official Twitter handle on Friday.
Lagos state also announced the ban on erecting illegal structures over drainage systems and displaying of wares and other commodities on walkways.
“Under the new Oyingbo bridge, Yaba and Ligali Ayorinde street in Victoria Island were earlier today cleared by the operatives of the @LAGESCOfficial (popularly known as KAI) and the Governor’s Security Task Force.
The state government @followlasg has declared a total ban of street trading, hawking, displaying wares on walkways, and building illegal structures on setbacks,” he wrote.
Wahab said that the move was part of government’s renewed effort to ensure a cleaner, safer, and healthy environment.
The commissioner further said it was aimed at curtailing the multiple nefarious activities allegedly perpetrated by hawkers who disguise to rob motorists and street traders who disrupt the free flow of traffic on highways and streets in the state.
