Emefiele’s Arraignment Stalled, Adjourned To Aug 23

The arraignment of suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele has been postponed due to the illness of one of the apex bank’s employees.

Emefiele was charged in an FCT High Court with 20 counts of alleged procurement fraud and conferring corrupt advantages on himself, alongside Sa’adatu Yaro, a CBN staff member, and her company, April 16 Investment Ltd.

At the hearing on Thursday, the DPP, Abubakar Mohammed, informed the court that Yaro became ill in the morning and would be unable to attend the arraignment.

Alabi Ajayi Esq, Emefiele’s counsel, did not object to the application.

Justice Hamza Muazu postponed the case until August 23 to allow the prosecution to present the second defendant.
