Ekiti DJ arrested for impersonating Portable

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Command have arrested one Famotemi Toluwani Timothy, a disc jockey based in Ekiti state.

A statement released on Wednesday by Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said he was arrested by for allegedly impersonating a street-hop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.

EFCC operatives apprehended Timothy, a native of Igede-Ekiti in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Thursday, September 29, 2022.

He was said to have opened an Instagram account with the name “Zazu Omolalomi Portable” where he claimed to be the singer.

According to Uwujaren, investigations showed that the suspect defrauded Adebayo Adedimeji Lukman, a club owner in Offa, Kwara State, by posing as the Zazuu star on social media.

He introduced himself as “Portable” and bargained with Lukman to perform at the club for the sum of N1 million (One Million Naira).

The suspect requested that 80 percent of the money be paid before the event, and Adebayo reportedly paid the sum of N790,000 into a bank account number provided by Timothy.

However, the self-styled artiste, “Portable” did not show up at the event, which was held on February 18, 2022 and eventually blocked all means of communication with the suspect.

The statement noted that Timothy would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” it added.
