Civil Servants Have Till February 17 to Verify IDs, FG

The Nigerian government has set a February 17 deadline for federal civil servants to complete their identity verification, as part of efforts to remove ghost workers from the payroll.

A memo from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation said civil servants must update their records on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) or risk suspension from the payroll.

The process requires employees to provide their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), IPPIS number, and salary account details.

An initial deadline had been extended by a week to allow more time for compliance.

“Employees who fail to complete their validation by 12 midnight on February 17 may suffer consequences, including suspension from the payroll,” the memo said.

The government has been cracking down on fraudulent salary claims. Last year, President Bola Tinubu ordered that civil servants living abroad but still receiving salaries should refund the money, with their supervisors also facing sanctions.
