He wrote: “ASUU is a very useless union.

“They should be scrapped & replaced with educators that actually give a damn about students and how that translates to the future of this country.”

This comes after the academic body announced the extension of its strike action which has lasted for over six months.

EMERALDLOADED recalls that ASUU embarked on the strike on 14th of February, 2022 while to pressure the federal government to honour previous agreements.

ASUU has been at loggerheads with the government over its alleged refusal to meet an agreement signed in 2009.

The body is also aggrieved with the government over the mode of paying lecturers.

A major reason they have been at loggerheads is because ASUU is insisting on being paid with its self-created UTAS, whereas the government insists on enrolling the union on the civil service used IPPIS.

President Muhammadu Buhari had appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other related unions to call off the lingering strike.

Buhari made the call at a Special Convocation ceremony organised to confer Honourary Degree of Doctor of Letters on Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi by the University of Mauduguri.

The president’s Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari represented Buhari at the occasion which held on Friday, August 12, 2022.

He said; ”I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the ASUU to reconsider its stance to call off their 7 months old strike, as students and their parents are desirous to see that schools are reopened.

The nation cannot afford long interruption of higher education of the youths and wouldn’t undermine the development of the nation’s human capital in a strictly competitive world. In this regard, I want to convey President Muhammadu Buhari’s call for ASUU to call off their strike and return to the classroom.”
