The Super Eagles triumphed over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon with a 2-0 win, and they now face a formidable challenge from Angola’s Palancas Negras on Friday at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan at 6.00 p.m.
In another quarter-final matchup, DR Congo, who clinched a narrow victory against Egypt via a penalty shootout, will face Guinea, who eliminated Equatorial Guinea with a surprising 1-0 win.
Monday’s late penalty secured Cape Verde’s spot in the quarter-finals, where they will meet Mauritania. Hosts Cote d’Ivoire advanced after a dramatic penalty shootout (5-4) against defending champions Senegal and will face Mali in their quarter-final clash.
Tuesday’s last round of 16 ties saw Mali defeat Burkina Faso 2-1, earning them a place in the quarter-final against the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire. South Africa emerged victorious against the Atlas Lions of Morocco with a 2-0 win, setting up a quarter-final clash against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde.
