Military Needs More Than Weapons to Fight Insecurity – Kwara Governor

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has emphasized that the military requires more than just weapons to combat insecurity in Nigeria effectively.

Speaking on Monday while inaugurating the newly constructed Quarter Guard and remodelled headquarters of the 22 Armoured Brigade at Sobi, Ilorin, the state capital, the governor stressed the importance of infrastructure in supporting military operations.

“It is not just about buying weapons; it is also about putting infrastructure in place for the military to be able to do their work properly,” Abdulrazaq stated.

He highlighted that the newly executed projects align with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) philosophy to maintain a strong infrastructure maintenance culture within the armed forces.

During the event, the governor also unveiled three new vehicles and 10 motorcycles, which the state government donated to enhance the operational capacity of the command.

In response, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Maj. Gen. Obinna Onubogu, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support, which he noted has strengthened the command’s ability to maintain peace in Kwara State.

Similarly, the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Maj. Gen. Oluwafemi Williams stated that the remodelling of the brigade complex was aimed at creating a more conducive working environment for officers and soldiers in line with the vision of the COAS, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.
