Army Arrests IPOB ESN Leaders In Enugu, Probe Soldiers’ Sporadic Shooting

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the raid on the hideouts of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Enugu.

The operation took place Monday night in Mgbowo, Agwu Local Government Area, at the Eastern Security Network (ESN) base.

Major Abubakar Abdullahi, acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, announced in a statement on Tuesday that two IPOB ESN ring commanders had been captured.

“They are currently undergoing interrogation with a security agency”, the spokesman added.

Abdullahi said there was no incident of indiscriminate firing or unprovoked burning of houses during the raid.

He noted that the trending videos in circulation claiming to represent the aftermath were not during the Agwu operation.

“Investigation into the video is ongoing to ascertain when and where it was shot and those involved.

“Any personnel found culpable would be sanctioned accordingly. Updates will be communicated when the investigation is completed”, Abdullahi added.
