Just In: Graham Potter sacked by Chelsea

Chelsea have sacked Graham Potter after just seven months in charge, with the Blues lying 11th in the Premier League table.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager took over from Thomas Tuchel in September and led the Blues to the quarter-finals of the Champions League during his short time in charge.

Potter went unbeaten in his first nine games in charge of the West London club, but the Blues have subsequently collected a meagre three wins from their last 17 matches in all tournaments.

Co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali kept faith in Potter for some time, but a 2-0 home loss to Aston Villa on Saturday evening proved to be the final straw.

Boehly and Eghbali affirmed in a statement that they held the “highest degree of respect” for Potter, and Bruno Saltor has been placed in interim charge while the board search for a permanent successor.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea. We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome,” a statement read.

“Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season.

“We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high.”

More to follow.

This comes after Leicester City sacked manager Brendan Rodgers, with the club facing relegation this summer.

Rodgers was fired the day after their 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace.

As a result, the Foxes have slipped into the bottom three with 10 games remaining.

Leicester announced on Sunday that a “mutual agreement” had been reached with the 50-year-old, who had been in charge since February 2019.

Rodgers departs with coaches Chris Davies and Glen Driscoll.

This means goalkeeping coach Mike Stowell and first-team coach Adam Sadler will take charge of their fixture against Aston Villa at King Power Stadium on Tuesday.

Rodgers led the club to consecutive fifth-placed finishes in 2020 and 2021 and won the FA Cup for the first time in their history two years ago.
