Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, former Borno State governor, has claimed that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, is on his way back to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Emeraldloaded reports that Obi left PDP in 2022 to secure the Labour Party presidential ticket.
The former Anambra governor is currently part of a coalition of opposition figures plotting to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The coalition had adopted the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as its platform to contest the next election.
However, the presidential ambitions of some coalition members, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, have triggered speculation that Obi may opt out.
Speaking on Channels TV on Monday, Modu Sheriff claimed that available information indicates Obi will return to PDP at any moment.
“As far as this politics is concerned, ADC doesn’t exist. Give the party three months and it will die down.
“The information available to me is that at any moment from now Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP,” he said.
The former governor also insisted that, with the political structures available, the ruling party will retain victory in 2027.
