Former Nigeria striker Yakubu has reacted to Momahed Salah’s new milestone of breaking Didier Drogba’s record as the highest-scoring African in the English Premier League.
The former Everton and Blackburn Rovers center-forward said Salah deserved credit for writing his name as the highest-scoring African in the English game, but Drogba was ‘scoring for fun.’
“You cannot say Salah is the greatest African to play in the Premier League. Drogba was something special because he was scoring for fun,’ Yakubu told Goal.
Yakubu, without much conviction to back his reasoning, said Salah is one of the greatest but not THE greatest African to ever do it in the Premier League.
“However, you have to give Salah the credit for breaking the big legend’s [Drogba] record, which makes him one of the greatest Africans in the English top-flight, but for now, he is certainly not the greatest.”
“All the same, we have to applaud the Egyptian (Salah) for his fine form because it is not easy to play the way he is doing that right now – which is incredible,” he concluded.
