Paris Saint-Germain had sweet revenge as they beat Manchester City 2-0 on Tuesday evening in the second Champions League Group Stage match.
It was a huge statement win for PSG as they moved above City and go top of Group A. Lionel Messi grabbed his first goal for PSG with a stunning effort as his side had an excellent defensive performance.
PSG had an early goal through Idrissa Gueye after a fine delivery from Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe drove to the byline and cut the back to Neymar, who fluffed his lines with the CIty goal at his mercy. The ball was kept alive by Idrissa Gueye, who took a touch to set himself before rifling an unstoppable shot into the top corner to hand PSG the lead.
Dias and Laporte both hit the deck under contact as the City corner was sent in. The referee clearly gesture neither warranted a penalty and VAR chose not to intervene, despite the City’s protests.
Red Card claim
De Bruyne lunged in on Gueye, went over the ball, and caught the PSG midfielder high on the shin. The referee issued a yellow card.
Lionel Messi finally grabbed his first goal in PSG shirt. He rolled back the years to open his PSG account with a memorable, trademark solo goal as he strode through midfield, played a one-two with Mbappe on the edge of the area, and then rifled a stunning effort into the top corner.
