Premier League looking into possibility of playing games abroad

According to The Athletic, the Premier League is considering the prospect of playing games outside of the United Kingdom once more.

Shareholders in the competition met in London last week to discuss the league’s expansion in specific countries.

According to the source, the Premier League is considering a possible ‘roadmap for important matches abroad,’ with the United States, Brazil, China, and India being named as potential markets.

A redesigned pre-season competition held in the United States has been suggested as a possible first step.

The notion of playing a ’39th game’ outside of England was already suggested by then-Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore in 2008, but it received no support from the FA, UEFA, or FIFA.
