The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has harshly criticized the Federal Government’s decision to approve a ₦712 billion upgrade for Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, calling the move “a misplaced priority” amid ongoing national struggles with inflation, unemployment, and power supply.
The massive investment, which was announced earlier this week, is meant to transform the Lagos airport into a world-class aviation hub. However, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Ifenla Oligbinde, issued a statement questioning the timing and wisdom of such a large-scale project when basic infrastructure and citizen welfare are still underfunded.
“What’s the logic of spending ₦712 billion on an airport when many Nigerians are battling hunger, blackouts, and lack of clean water?” the statement read.
Public reaction has been mixed, with some praising the government’s ambition for modernization, while others echo ADC’s concern, demanding greater investment in more urgent sectors like education and healthcare.
